Project Overview
A 110 kV urban substation operated by a power utility group in Hunan Province, China, has applied partial discharge online monitoring for its main transformer and switchgear, together with portable PD detection instruments, supplied by Zhuhai Huawang Technology Co., Ltd. Customer running reports issued in 2025 confirm that the system has been operating stably.
The customer’s name is omitted in this public summary in line with the company’s public-materials policy; the running reports can be presented to qualified customers on request.
Monitoring a Compact Urban Substation
Urban 110 kV substations supply dense loads and often cannot be taken out of service easily for periodic testing. Continuous online monitoring of the main transformer and medium-voltage switchgear provides an additional layer of condition information between scheduled maintenance windows.
The project scope combined fixed online monitoring with portable detection instruments, so that the utility team can perform targeted live-line surveys at other stations using the same measurement methodology.
Fixed Monitoring and Portable Detection Together
- Online monitoring on the main transformer and switchgear records PD-related signals continuously and builds long-term trends.
- Portable instruments allow technicians to investigate individual bays in more detail when a trend deserves a closer look.
Using one supplier for both parts keeps the measurement interpretation consistent between the permanent system and periodic surveys.
Operation Record
The 2025 customer running reports state that the system runs stably in daily service. This project is part of the more than 40 customer-stamped operation documents held by Huawang, covering 500 kV, 220 kV and 110 kV substations, distribution networks, generation and industrial users.
