2. Standards participation and credentials
Look for participation in relevant standards – for example, a manufacturer that co-drafted power-industry standards for wireless sensors or ceramic capacitance sensors has deeper domain involvement than one that merely cites certifications. Verify claimed national high-tech status and ISO certificates where possible.
3. Product range and technology coverage
PD detection is multi-technology: TEV, ultrasonic, HFCT and UHF each suit different assets. A supplier that covers the full technology set can recommend the right sensor for each asset rather than pushing a single method.
4. OEM/ODM and customisation
Distributors often need private-label or custom variants. Confirm the manufacturer’s OEM/ODM process, minimum quantities and documentation support before committing.
5. Export experience and documentation
Ask for export experience, shipping documentation and language support. Instruments sold into utility environments need clear manuals, calibration data and application guidance in English.
6. After-sales model
Since instrument buyers may not have local service coverage, clarify the support model: training on use, calibration procedures, spare parts and remote troubleshooting. Equipment-based inspection programmes work well without a local service team – the manufacturer’s training and documentation quality is what makes that possible.
A qualification process that works
- Shortlist – identify manufacturers with a specialist focus and verifiable credentials.
- Document review – patents, standards participation, certificates, export records.
- Product demo – request a live demo or field trial on a representative asset type.
- Reference checks – ask for existing customers in comparable markets.
- Pilot order – start with a small order to validate quality, documentation and communication before scaling.
