A 220kV substation in Jiangxi, China, deployed an online partial discharge monitoring solution for its GIS equipment to improve insulation condition monitoring and support more reliable operation.
The project uses Huawang Technology’s HMJ1010-WAEA Smart Contact Ultrasonic Sensor to detect acoustic emission (AE) signals generated by partial discharge inside GIS equipment.

Solution
The ultrasonic sensors are installed directly on the GIS enclosure at selected monitoring points. The contact installation helps reduce the influence of ambient noise and enables more effective collection of ultrasonic signals from the equipment.
The HMJ1010-WAEA integrates a high-sensitivity ultrasonic detection circuit and a low-power LoRa wireless communication module. Collected monitoring data can be transmitted to the monitoring system for further analysis and condition assessment.
This solution allows maintenance personnel to monitor the insulation condition of GIS equipment and identify abnormal signals at an early stage.
